Lake Como guide books

When we were organising our first visit to Lake Como, we looked for a Guide Book that would tell us something about the place in advance. But we soon realised there wasn’t a Guide to Lake Como in the UK bookshops. All of the works that included information about Lake Como also included sections on Lake Garda, Lake Lugano and Lake Maggiore. You could only buy a Guide to the ‘The Italian Lakes’.

There must be people who prefer to spend their holidays visiting several Lakes, spending a relatively short amount of time at each, rather than staying at any one of them. For such visitors the Guides to the Lakes give them the bigger picture they need.

But even though about 80% of each of the books was of academic interest only to us, we happily bought one. It was like buying a car manual that had sections not only for the car you own but also on three or four other makes. But you never know. You might change to one of the other makes, or Lakes, at some point in the future.

We had gone looking for a Guide Book because that’s what you’re supposed to do. But deep down, we didn’t want to have to plough through a whole book – it would be a bit grim. So having only twenty pages to read was perfect. And the rest of the book isn’t wasted. We can try Lake Maggiore or Lake Garda another time, and only have to read another twenty pages then.

So if you want to get an insight into Lake Como while storing up travel literature for future trips, try one of the Guides from our Amazon shop.
