A transfer by taxi or mini bus is the ideal way to get from the airport to Lake Como, especially if you’re a first timer, bringing bulky sports equipment, travelling with young children or elderly or infirm passengers or just want to give yourself a treat. |

It is best to make your Lake Como car hire reservation in advance as this saves you both time and money. In the summer months, in particular, trying to arrange a hire car on arrival can be a time consuming and ultimately disappointing experience. |

We bought an Italian phrase book a few weeks before travelling to Lake Como. You know how it is. You swear you’ll learn some of the language in the few weeks before the holiday, as you did last year and the year before – say you’d learn some of the language, that is – not actually learn anything. But you do start working through the first chapter, until something goes wrong. |

Lake Como guide books
When we were organising our first visit to Lake Como, we looked for a Guide Book that would tell us something about the place in advance. But we soon realised there wasn’t a Guide to Lake Como in the UK bookshops. All of the works that included information about Lake Como also included sections on Lake Garda, Lake Lugano and Lake Maggiore. You could only buy a Guide to the ‘The Italian Lakes’. |
