Situated on the quieter Eastern side of the Lake – a little way above Varenna – Bellano enjoys panoramic views from a broad lakeside promenade.
Its distinctive natural feature is the Orrido di Bellano, a gorge formed where the river Pioverna gushes through a narrow passage between high rocks.
The main man-made attraction is The Church of San Nazzario and San Celso, with its Romanesque-Gothic facade.
