Travelling up the west side of the lake from Como, Cernobbio is the first commune you come to. It’s a smart place, with picturesque squares, narrow streets, an art nouveau jetty and a waterfront decorated with trees and flowers.
Two celebrated villas at Cenobbio are the Villa D’Este, now a five star hotel, and the Villa Erbe, a conference centre, which was used for the film Oceans Twelve. Other places of interest are the churches of St. Vincenzo and St. Michele of Rovenna.
Cernobbio sits at the foot of Monte Bisbino. There is a route from the village to the peak, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the lake and find the beginning of the ‘Via dei Monti Lariani’, a long, signposted scenic trail.
