Lake Como buses – timetables and fares

Getting around Lake Como – buses summarised the most relevant bus routes for visitors. Here we give information on the timetables and fares.

Typical journey times include:

  • Como to Argegno – 40 minutes
  • Como to Menaggio – 1 hour, 10 minutes
  • Como to Colico – 2 hours, 10 minutes
  • Como to Bellagio – 1 hour, 10 minutes

Single ticket prices are based on a system of ’tariffs’, effectively dividing routes into price stages. For return journeys, you just buy two single tickets. You have to buy your ticket in advance before boarding the bus. The procedure is explained in the bus ticket ceremony.

Typical fares include:

  • Como to Argengo – tariff 5 – Euro 2.20 single fare
  • Como to Menaggio – tariff 8 – Euro 3.05 single fare
  • Como to Colico – tariff 12 – Euro 5.10 single fare
  • Como to Bellagio – tariff 7 – Euro 2.75 single fare

We became aware on our last visit of a daily ticket called a Biglietto Giornaliero, priced at eight Euros. This is useful if you are going to be making a number of different bus journeys in one day, or if you’re going out of the immediate Lake Como area. Our day tickets, issued in Como, were valid for a trip as far as Bergamo and back.

The organisation running Lake Como buses – SPT Linea publishes the complete bus timetable, the prices information and related fares.

  1. Please could you let me know if there is an early train /bus from Tremezzo to Bergamo at 5am. on Sat 11th July. My flight home is at 8.15am.If not are there any alternatives?

  2. Hiya,
Having stayed at Hotel Villa Edy for last few years and going in/out Bergamo I don’t think you will find any public transport that will get you to Bergamo for that early flight. I think you have no alternative but to get a taxi or stay in Bergamo the night before your flight. If you talk to Roberto/Edy at Villa Edy they know a man who offers airport runs but i think it cost us about 150 euros to get to Bergamo and that was a few years ago!
Hope you have a fabulous time!

  3. We’re planning to take the train from Malpensa to Como. As you mentioned above, there are buses we can take to Bellagio, but we’ll prefer to take a taxi, once we arrive at Como Lago train station, do you know if there are also taxis available at the train station? without having to make a car reservation, since it would be difficult to know the time of arrival at the Como train station?

  4. You should be able to find a taxi near Como train station.

  5. Hi there,

We have to catch a plane from Milan Malpensa at 11.15am and we are staying in Cadenabbia. Will we have enough time to make it to the airport on public transport (C10 bus to Como and then train to airport)? I can’t seem to find a bus timetable that actually opens!

    Thanks

  6. You should be able to make it on public transport Monday to Saturday first bus from Caendabbia is 5:24 am. Here is a link to current timetable http://www.sptlinea.it/pdf/estivo_2009/C10.pdf

  7. Hello,I will be traveling alone and will need to get to Domaso from Malpensa. It has been suggested that I rent a car, but I would really like to slow down and look at the scenery rather than drive….will I have problems getting to Domaso and getting around the lake without renting a car? You suggestions are greatly appreciated.

  8. You will have no problem getting around the Lake without a car. Just getting to the Lake from the airport will take some considerable time. You need to take Malpensa Experss, change at Saronno for a train to Como Lago Nord. Continue your journey on C10 bus to Domaso. Small bus depot near train station as you get off in Como. You then use C10 for getting around the lake. It goes all the way to Colico. All you have to remember is that you will need to plan your day around bus timetable.

  9. Thank you so much for your reply. I greatly appreciate it!
