Accommodation
Accommodation for visitors to Lake Como is provided by approximately three hundred hotels, a wide range of serviced or self catering villas and apartments and a number of campsites and caravan parks. The mix varies from one part of the Lake to another.
Many hotels with three or more stars are located in the towns and villages of the mid lake triangle (Menaggio, Bellagio and Varenna), western branch (Cadenabbia – Griante to Cernobbio) or Como. In addition to providing accommodation, the buildings also contribute significantly to the picturesque scenery that attracts visitors to these parts of the Lake.
Campsites and caravan parks are found more frequently in the northern part of the Lake (Alto Lario), which runs from Dongo on the western side to Colico on the north eastern end of the Lake. They are often part of a larger community, being associated with, or located close to, busy centres for water sports.
So accommodation at Lake Como often does double duty, serving both as a place to eat and sleep at night and as an integral part of the things to see and do during the day.
Apartments for rent are found all around the Lake; some located on higher ground with panoramic Lake views, others at the water’s edge or in old town centres.
One characteristic that unites all forms of accommodation at Lake Como is that they’re typically more expensive than the equivalents in other destinations, which makes it particularly important to choose the type of accommodation that will suit you best.
Another point that applies to all forms of accommodation is that, for many visitors, the most important element of any accommodation is the quality of the view, if any, of the Lake and mountains.
